Subject: Cap and Rotor installation help!
IP: Logged

Message:
I just purchased a brass cap and rotor, and Id like some advice on installation. We all know that its in a bad spot under the hood, and with that being said, whats the best way to get it off without disconnecting a lot of stuff? Also, any recommendations on keeping the wires straight so i can get them on the new cap the way they were on the old one? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks for looking guys!

It's not that bad. Get a stepladder if you have to. Draw yerself a diagram of the distributor, trace each wire to its cylinder, mark the wire and your diagram.

Cylinders on the cap go from 1-6 counterclockwise (1 is marked). On the engine:
6 5
4 3
2 1
Looking from the front of the truck. Easy.

Slinky - LOL!!

I got a Borg Warner brass cap & rotor, time to
change mine next weekend. The JBA wires
are numbered, which helps a lot. I usually sit
up on the fender to change mine. It really
helps to have an aftermarket air intake, once
you remove that there is more room. Also, I
took those chintzy heat shields off when I got
headers, I have way more room to get at the
spark plugs that way.

97 3.9 CC Sport. JBA stainless headers, Borla Turbo XL stainless muffler & tip, 17 x10 Boyd Coddington Smoothies, FMS injectors, V8 TB, Quick D intake,
Not installed: 5.9 litre 360, posi & 3.92s, M1 2bbl , 52mm billet TB, ceramic JBAs. , KRC cam, mopar perf valve covers & air cleaner
