Subject: Engine Mod Costs IP: Logged
Message: Ok, with the large amount of posts regarding engine modification (including cams, working the bowls and such) how much are we talking? Might as well do all of this stuff w/ the engine out of the truck, rockers, cams, machining...all sounds extreammly expensive. Any ideas on actual dollar amounts? What kind of shop would i have to take it to inorder to get the stuff done? a speed shop?

Message: All of that work can be done with the engine still in the truck. The hardest being the camshaft because you have to remove the radiator and condensor. I really can't tell you who much the install would be because I install everything on my truck but... my rrs (crower 1.7) cost around $300 and the cam Bernd is talking about is around $260. Bowl work? I don't know how much that is. sorry

Message: Hehehehe...technically, the heads come off for bowl work...engine stays in the truck.
Bowl work and porting can range from $250 - $600 just by itself.
If you're going to be doing a complete rebuild (or touching the pistons/rings)...take the engine out of the truck.

Message: Never said i was a mechanic ;-) so basicly i'm looking at (worst case) 1150 - 1200 bucks. How much HP would this give me? quite a bit? Once again, what kind of shop would i need to contact for the bowl work?
