Subject: 87 2WD 3.9L Longbox IP: Logged
Message: I have just recently bought a Dakota. Dirt cheap, I might add ($600 and E-tested). It has a 2bbl 3.9L that runs really rough and has 351,000km on it. I am thinking of swapping in a newer mill, maybe FI or even a larger mill with a 4bbl. I am wondering about the amount of labor and cost involved. Right now it is getting incredible mileage - 11L/100 km - and I don't want to lose that. But - there is always a but - it has no power. The transmission slips a little under hard acceleration and it stalls under hard braking. Has anyone out there been through the same dilemma? A little advice could go a long way! Thanks

Message: may-be the carb running rough, also take a compression check and vaccuum this will help tell you what condition the motor is in.
i take it your location is canada,i,m in maine, near NB canada about 1hr.
i have a 87 4x4 dak i,m selling for $650 its stuck in 4x4 drive and i have a 89 3.9 with 98,000 miles i,m selling for $175

try the vaccuum check first it,ll tell you alot about the valves and general condition of the motor.
price on swap is had to say.how much you can do and which way you go 3.9 or v8.ball park $200-1500
