Message: Mine did the same last year Geeveeme.
Try pulling the neg battery cable for about 20 secs (some say to also turn the key to the run position)when this happens. This resets the ecm. Mine would always restart until the ecm relearned everything (about 200 miles).
Anyways, after cleaning the TB out real good it has always restarted with no problems....driven it about 8K.
Hope this helps!

Message: GEEVEEME I HAVE A 92 5.2 WITH IDENTICAL PROBLEM. DID YOU FIND A SOLUTION? I REPLACED BOTH THE FUEL PUMP RELAY AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF RELAY. STILL HAD THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS A THERMAL PROBLEM I WENT TO DODGE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE ECM SO I REPLACED THAT $300 BILL. THEN THEY SAID THAT IT WAS THE PUMP OR THE REGULATOR. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW YOUR DAK PATIENT IS DOING.

Message: But your '92 Dak is fuel injected, not carbed, right?
Fuel, air or electric. Gotta be one of the big three. My experience (about 35 years) with backyard, shadetree troubleshooting says... probably electrical and probably ignition.
You might try swapping parts with a known good Dakota (do you have a friend with one?). Swap out the module for example. Good luck.

Message: Problem seems to be getting worse now its stalling and rpm's jump can only drive it for about 25 min. then it starts to act up.!have not tried fixing it as of yet because it only used to not start when warn and sitting for 15 min then you have to wait 10 or 15 min b4 it would start . It was not a problem if you went straight ot wherever you were going but it had to be a 30 to 40 min. trip tops .Never needed to drive far with it but i am going to have to soon to take kids to school and pick them up also, so i will be starting with hall effect pick then ne other cheap fixes . Ill keep you guys posted ....sorry i took so long to respond......

Message: Put hall effect pickup in and have not taken a test drive to see what happens .......ill be glad if it at least stops stalling and having to wait 15 min. or half hour for it to want to start and run ok !! took 5 min to put pickup in , hood comes off so it made it really easy to get to distributer !!!!

Message: GREGG 92 DAK IT WAS MY FUEL PUMP.
WHAT I WOULD SUGGEST FIRST IS TO GO TO A PEP BOYS OR SOME OTHER STORE AND GET A FUEL PRESSURE TEST GAUGE. MAKE SURE YOU RELIEVE THE PRESSURE FROM THE SYSTEM. DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY GROUND AND INSTALL THE TEST GAUGE ON THE FUEL RAIL YOU WILL SEE IT ON THE DRIVER SIDE RAIL.
HOOK IT UP AND SECURE IT SO ITS NOT FLOPPING IN THE BREEZE I USED ELECTRICAL TAPE TO TIE IT TO THE MASTER BRAKE RESERVOIR.
GET A BUDDY AND GO FOR A TEST DRIVE WITH YOU CHECK THE PRESSURE WHEN IT IS RUNNING IT SHOULD BE BETWEEN 35-40 PSI WHEN YOUR PROBLEM HAPPENS HAVE YOUR BUDDY TURN IT OVER AND CHECK YOUR PRESSURE TO SEE IF YOU DO HAVE PRESSURE. IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY PRESSURE CHECK YOUR RELAY'S. YOU CAN GET THE RELAYS FROM AN ELECTRICAL WHOLESALER FOR HALF THE PRICE OF AUTO PARTS STORE BUT THEY ARE CHEAP.

Message: Geeveeme
It sound to me like you may have a fuel pump problem. After the truck, has been run for a while here is a way to test for fuel pump pressure. There is a Schrader Valve located toward the back of the engine on the driver's side. The Schrader valve will have a cap on it, it looks just like a valve stem on a tire with the cap on it. Locate it, take the cap off and depress the inside spring mechanism, if your system has pressure gas should squirt out. You could take it to a shop and actually have them hook up a fuel pump gauge and measure the pressure, it should be around 40 to 50 lbs.
Another problem common to the early daks is a red wire in the harness about 8 inches below the fuse box on the driver's side under the hood. This red wire supplies power to ignition and fuel pump. There are about 4 wires connected together, corrosion can build up on this junction green and wire in color, it almost looks like mold. This problem can cause intermittent operation and eventually completely unable to start. You will have to get into the harness and clean off the corrosion and reconnect the wires, it's best to solder them together and tape the back up. Hope you can find the problem and correct-Good Luck.

Message: REMEMBER THAT IF YOU STILL HAVE PRESURE IN THE SYSTEM THAT IT WILL COME OUT JUST LIKE AIR OUT OF A TIRE. AND IF YOUR ENGINE IS STILL HOT YOU RISK IGNIGHTING IT.

Message: My 1995 Dak V-8, 5.2, 4x4 has the same problem, when i tested the Schrader valve test, it shot out to the passenger wheel well. Tried to restart, no joy. Tried the Schrader valve again after cranking for a bit, the fuel oozed out of the valve. Is this normal?
Thanks

Message: My 94 dakota is having start problems. After sitting overnite it will just click after a few more tries it will engage. once running and warms up starts just fine. bought battery wasn't that, tested charging system for drain - none, about to put on new starter but not convinced this is it. this morning turned over normal 3-4 times then started, but tried to click right as it was starting,oh yea it's a v-8. let me add it started with one click occasionally, now several clicks every morning and sometimes after it has sat for 2-3 hours it will also do it.

Message: I had the same problem with a 93 dakata. After 1 year one smart tech found the problem. On the drivers side on the inside fender there is a wire harness all wraped up with that black tape.
comes out by the fuse box. Cut all the tape off and look for a splice cant remmber what color the wires were I think one was red. Anyways its 1 wire that goes into to 3 or four wires cant miss it. Replace the connector it gets corroded. ONe of those wires control the fuel pump. Mine had all the the looks of a bad fuel pump but the pressure was fine. All it was was a bad splice.
