Subject: 3.9L Dodge Dakota Muffler? IP: Logged
Message: Hey, I'm new to this board. I was thinking about getting a new muffler this weekend, I have a V6 5-speed 3.9L. What do you guys think? Flowmaster 40's single input dual output to the back with chrome tips?
Suggestions?

Message: Dynomax Super Turbo part no. 17748. This muffler will not give you any ricey tones and keep the sound mellow.

Message: I agree with Ernie. I've got a Dynomax on my 6er and just love it. Not ricey at all. Throw on an intake and TB along with the muffler and it'll sound and perform even better.

Also note, the dynomax takes a few thousand miles to fully "burn-in" to get the really good, mellow tone out of it.

Message: The 17748 is single in & single out if you get to big on the V6 you will loose some low end TQ but with a 5 spd that shouldn't to much of a problem for you

Where? : Summit Racing, Advanced Auto Parts
Precision : You will need a short piece of 2.5 in/2.5 out pipe about 4" for my CC also a 2.5 clamp and a hanger because the factory muffler has it built onto the muffler

Message: Is it true that the Dynomax 17748 will not fit an regular cab 4x4 and that I would have to go with the 17733? If so, what is the main difference? I have heard nothing but good things about the 17748 and that is the route I would like to take- provided, of course, it fits.

Message: I posted on another thread here earlier today about 3.9 mufflers. I have a 99 RC 3.9 auto. I am running a single in, single out Magnaflow muffler with "Y" pipe into dual
2 1/2" pipes exiting at the corners into 3" SS tips.
I originally went into the muffler shop for a flowmaster, but the guys there told me I would be highly disappointed with the sound and overall performance and said I should go with the Magnaflow. I am not sorry in the least I did. It has a very mellow sound and isn't too loud when just cruising around, but sounds really great when you get on it.
Just my two cents on the subject.

Message: Still seeking the truth. Is it true that a 17748 will not fit a regular cab 4x4 and I would have to go with a 17733? I really am not looking to sound like a souped up Honda, so I would rather have the 17748 if possible. Any facts in regard to this question greatly appreciated.

The only thing I can tell you is your going to have to craw under your truck and do some measuring, I know there are some guy's that are running the # 17748 on Reg Cab trucks mostly 4x2's. Go to my Photo gallery and you will find the measurements for the 17748 that should help you figure out if it will come close to fitting.

PS if you don't like the Buzzzz you won't like the 17733, been there done that ; (
