Message: This is just too ironic. I'm a Mustang fan and usually visit Stang websites...but, I also have a '98 Dakota. So, I happen to check this site out every now-and-then and I saw this thread and had to mention my purchase today.
To make a long story short, I was looking for a muffler replacemnent for my Dak and then I came across Jeg's price for their Dynomax cat-backs. They are selling the Dynomax Super Turbo and Ultra Flo cat-back systems for $199. My exhaust system is rusting and my muffler had been punctured, so I decided to go with the cat-back. So, I drove over to my local Jeg's shop and purchased the Ultra Flo cat-back (17359). It is stainless steel...which is very cool in my book. On top of that, Dynomax is offering a $25 rebate on the system (along with some other systems and mufflers), so I dropped a total $175 on a stainless steel cat-back. I can't wait to get it on the truck, but it will have to wait until I return from Vegas :)
P.S. I do also like Magnaflow products. I have a Magnaflow cat-back on my Stang and I couldn't be any happier with it. I know that it sounds different than a Dak, etc., but I was very impressed with Magnaflow's quality, fit and finish.

What part number is the muffler? Is it a #17748?

The Ultra Flo Muffler is 17296
The cat-back is going on a '98 V6 Dakota Sport, 2WD, regular cab, regular bed...pretty basic.

Message: DakotaDan
When you put the #17748 on your truck, did you do it yourself, or did you have to take it to a shop to get welding done.
Is there a part number of a stainless pipe to run from the muffler to the rear of the truck that fits up nicely with the #17748?

Message: I did it myself, after wasting 3 hrs trying to save the factory muffler (why I don't know) I got the sawzall out cut it off and finished the install in a hr. or less. I only needed about 4-5" piece of pipe to add, just picked it up at AutoZone. Did you see my install gallery on the first page of this thread.
00redgt's # 17296 will probably louder than the #17748 it's only 16" long and it's a straight thru muffler
Engine : neutered 5.2
