Message: benny, do you have a carb, or throttle body injection? If its a carb, I don't know what the problem is, it should run. If its throttle body, it needs at least 12-15 pounds of pressure to run. My guess is the fuel pump is trying to draw fuel through a clogged fuel filter in the tank, if thats the case you will need to drop the tank or pull the bed and remove the in tank pump and see if the filter is clogged. You may want to check the fuel pressure to make sure its up to spec other than that I'm not sure what else to do.
Good Luck

Message: I dont know if you've got the problem fixed benny but i justed
turned 16 and my parents dont have the money to buy me
something newer so i just took over my dads old 88. I was
having the same problem. At first i thought it was the fuel pump
but i just went to auto zone and bought a new filter that clamps
on to the bottom of the fuel pump and after i did that i noticed
the hose that connects to the top of the fuel pump was
smushed. After i got a new hose it runs fine. And im guessing
your truck will turn over and idle for a minute or too then it just
sounds like its starving itself of gas well mine did that with me
too and im guessing its because after pressure built up in the
hose it closed completely shut. (sorry about this being so long)
And if you've had problems with your gas gauge and fixed it id
really like to know how. Thanks
