Subject: Cat or no cat IP: Logged
Message: i have a 98 v6 rc, auto, and the previous owner decided that he wanted to take the cat off as a cheap alternative to a muffler. he also cut the wires to the o2 sensor that comes after the cat and just left them there. besides fixing the sensor should i put a cat back on the truck, or does it really matter. by the way it is running rough, i get 9 miles to the gallon, and is lacking in low end torque.

Message: well, i would definetly put the sensor back on, otherwise you are causing the computer to cut off the other sensors on your truck. this is bad. whether or not to put a new cat on is up to you -- you will have to put something there otherwise there will be a warning sign on your display. You can go two ways, 1.) get a KAT box from KRC performance, which tricks the computer into thinking there is a CAT, or put a new CAT on whether it be a high performance or just an oem.
hope that helps ya.

Message: Of course your truck runs like crap and your mileage sucks! You're missing vital pieces! Go to any muffler shop and have them put in a hi-flo cat and, good God man, put the O2 sensor back in so the computer can stop dumping fuel into the engine!!! It thinks your truck never warms up and is running in a closed or open loop........it's enough to confuse anyone, especially a computer!

Message: i have a 99 3.9 that i currently replaced the cat. i drove it with straight pipe to the muffler for a few months, it ran just fine. but the check engine light came on and stayed on, after i replaced it i reset the computer and the light came back on. my gas milage was not affected by the change. maybe there is another problem with the truck that the previous owner neglected to for-warn you about. but as far as the cat, i would deffinatley suggest replacing it with a hi-flo cat and for sure a new sensor.
