Subject: Supercharging my V6 IP: Logged
Message: I have been looking for a supercharger kit for my 2000 v-6, I can't find anything anywhere.
Will the powerdyne kit for the big brother 318 or 360 bolt up? Will I have to do some fabricating?
Someone point me in the right direction.

Message: Contrary to the remark by V-Sux, don't hesitate to supercharge your V-6. I've been running a Powerdyne unit made for the 318/360 on my 98 V-6 for two years now. I am also running a 180 t-stat, bored t-body, cat back ex., blk magic fan, shift kit, full Hotchkis susp. and this Dak. really hauls the mail and still gets over 20 mpg on the highway. by the way I bought this truck 4 years ago when I was 57 years young. I've done all the work on it myself with the exception of the shift kit. WHO SAYS YOU HAVE TO BE YOUNG TO HAVE FUN! Go for the gusto.

Message: Hey Jim
Did you have to modify anything about that 318 kit to fit on your dakota? will it all bolt up directly or what?

Message: I ran a powerdyne on my truck for two or three weeks... was very glad i didnt actually buy it. I guess being use to a 100 shot of nitrous or 7psi on the turbo, i was expecting too much out of the s/c.
If you can buy one really cheap used, do it... but i seriously wouldnt waste $2800 (or whatever it is) for the lack of power they put out.

Message: What about the Vortech system that KRC Performance offers? They seem to prefer that system to the Powerdyne.

Message: When new and stock my mileage was in the 18s. On two trips to So Pennsylvania last year and a trip from Maine to Niagara Falls two weeks ago have averaged 20.4 and 20.5 mpg. What helps is that the Powerdyne doesn't make any great amount of boost to about 2300 rpms and I turn 2000 rpms at 70 mph. The only mod I had to make to mount the unit was that I had to cut a small piece of the inner fender out so it would not vibrate against it at idle, and shorten the tube going from the s/c to the air hat, other than that the unit bolts on just like it would on a V-8

Message: That's not necessarily true. Superchargers are great for low rpm power but they tend to only build boost under load. If you stomped on it you should get boot right off idle, but if you accelerate at part throttle you won't get much boost till higher rpm's. That's why superchargers are great for dragracing because they build power instantly wheras turbos need time to spool up. Turbo's are more efficient though. If you had two equal daks, one with a turbo and one with a supercharger the supercharged one would take it off the line easily, but eventually the turbo truck would catch up and pass the one with the supercharger.

Message: Do you have to do anything to your computer to install the s/c for the v8 on the v6 what does it do with fuel management if anything. Also does anyone know about the effects on smog laws I'm Ca and we are now on the dino testing.
Thanks Chris

i am probably one of the only people around that has had both... i had the powerdyne with a 9# pulley and it put about 5#s of boost in my manifold at about 4700 rpms... with almost no boost below 3000. The turbo i had was a TB03 with a standard 7.5# wastegate... which put a full 7-8# in my manifold at around 2200-2500 rpms depending on the load i put it under. All i can say it the turbo kicked the s/c ass all around... no ifs ands or buts about it... even at the same boost level the turbo was making what felt like 50% more power than the s/c. The truck took off a whole lot faster with the turbo. Most people think that s/c are all about low end and turbos are all about top end but that is incorrect. With a properly sized turbo, you can make boost from off idle to redline.

Message: If the s/c was only giving you 5lbs with a 9lb pulley then i would say that the supercharger wasn't sized right to the engine.
Even factory turbos don't make much power at low revs.

If I use the powerdyne s/c system can I also use an underdrive powerpulleysystem or will this make the supercharger turn too slow?
