Subject: Primer Color IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dakota that's Red. Does anyone know what color the factory primer is before the topcoat and clearcoat is sprayed? A guy who slammed his door into my driver side door is trying to tell me that the silver blue that's showing in the dent is my undercoat, not his silver blue truck color.

Message: Well the factory uses a completely different painting process then the dealers and paint shops do. You shouldn’t find primer under the paint. The easiest thing to do is to get some sand paper 320 grit will work just fine, and sand down a section of the area that’s messed up and see what you get. I’m willing to bet that you will go through the clear coat, red paint and end up with shiny metal.

Message: Hey Waterpolo, thanks for the information. Man those silver flames are really neat! I guess custom paint. Anyway, nice touch.
