Message: I have a 99 2x4 SLT, auto. I had flowmaster
exhaust installed and found out my truck has
lockup torque converter. What is it? And what
does it do? What are the pro's and con's of it?

Message: I believe it bypasses some of the clutches in the transmission and gives it a straight(true) drive. Have you noticed that even though you have 4 gears your truck seems to shift more than 4 times. That, my friend, is the torque converter locking up. I dont know much of the mechanics of it but it would make sense that it would make the transition between gears a lot smoother.
