Hi ,
My 92 Dakota (150.000 + miles) after about 30 or 40 minutes of driving it starts to miss a little at first then soon after, start spitting and coughing and it get so bad that i have to pull over and wait anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes depending on if its warm or cold out ,for it to want to start again.... seems to start sooner if its colder out . Other than this very frustrating problem ( basicly i have around 30 minutes of driving time ) for over 150.000 miles on, it screams!! thx for ne help.

I read this and sounds to me like a vapor lock situation but unlikely. I have a simillar problem with my 88 3.9 tbi accept mine does it intermintenly when it warms up and it will start right back up. One thing it does sound to me like in either case is for whatever reason the engine is running lean or fat. Try checking the temp.sensors and 02. Also do a plug chop next time this happens while you're standing around pull a couple spark plugs and see how they look. this should at least tell you wether the engine is running lean or fat.

theres several things you can check
1 remove the dist cap when it does it again
check for moisture[sometimes the cap will
sweat from the motor heat]
2 check for fire at the plugs

3 check fuel and pressure at the fuel rail
[theres a valve on the rail-looks like a tire valve stem, take the cover off push the valve
it,ll have 45lbs pressure-keep your face away]

4 dirty fuel filter[inline]also the sock[filter] in tank

5 coil over heating

may-be this will help

FOUND IT!!!! the cause of the bad performance was that the reluctor wheel had come loose on the dist. shaft and ate into the pick-up i found about 1/4 inch of iron filings in the dist. Replaced the dist. for under $100.00 The new casting was a bit strong on the O.D. so i just dressed the chamfer and it went right in with a couple light taps on the casting. HOPE THIS HELPS (NOTE) the after market one has the relucter wheel riveted to the shaft NOT hot melted like the stock unit.
