Hi guys.

I have an interesting problem. I have a 94 dak, v6 and after the engine gets warm, say about 20 minutes, the engine light comes on and the oil pressure drops. I had similar problems back in August and replaced the oil sending unit. That fixed it unit recently. I replaced the sending unit again but it didn't help this time. I'm thinking it's my oil pump but I need to be sure. Could it be anything else?

Thanks.

Frosbite.

frostbite,
same thing happened to my '96 in January. It kept going down to 0 pressure, then would go back up again. After a couple of days of this, it finally stayed on 0 pressure.
Turned out to be the oil pump. took it to my shop and $300.00 later (ouch), it was good as new.
Oil pressure has been fine since.
But, get it checked, don't want to ruin your engine.
good luck,
daveo.

It could be the oil pressure switch. On my 90 dakota its located at the very back top of the engine. Not sure if this is the same as the oil sending unit. But its a 15 dollar part.

Yeah, I figured it was the oil pump. About 400.00 bucks altogether in parts and labor. I'd really hate to do it myself. Anyways, it works ok going to work and back but any farther, forget it. Time to book er' in very soon.

Thanks.

Frostbite.
