My Dakota will shift to 1st and 2nd but will not shift to 3rd. Sometimes everything works normal and then this starts up again.
Any ideas?

Kik down linkage too tight.
Possibly trash blocking a passage in the tranny.
First unhook kik down linkage all together and drive, DONT DRIVE IT VERY LONG OR HARd with the kik down linkage unhooked, it does have a tendancy to fry a tranny in that situation.
if it still wont go into 3rd it may be a block in the valve body itself.
