Message: Just loaded some 6x9's in the rear of my '96.
Had to do a bit of trimming on the plastic, but got them in and was able to use the original covers.
Sounds much better than the tiny factory speakers.
Anyone else done this?
Just felt I had to tell you all. :)

Message: Hey daveo I have the same year truck and want to do the same thing I've already replaced the factory one's with the correct size but they dont really do anything for me! how small did the magnet's have to be on your 6x9's so that they fit and all you did is trim the plastic panel that you take off?

Message: jdawg,
I bought some pioneer's from Walmart. I'll post the exact speaker # later.
They will not fit in there like the originals did. Instead of putting them in the hole and pulling them forward to mount like the originals, you have to push them in the hole and mount from the outside of the original hole. This is why you must trim the plastic on the left or right side. I trimmed the plastic on only one side with a jigsaw, just enough to get the speaker in there. You also must drill new holes for mounting and get longer screws for the top holes.(original screws were not long enough).
But, the original speaker covers will fit back in place, to hide them and give the original look back to it.
The end result is that they sound 100x better than stock. Lot's more bass.
If you need any help, let me know.
note: pry the original covers from the BOTTOM, then pull out towards you. The mounting spring type clips are on the bottom and it kind of hangs from the top. If you pry on the top first, you will break the hanging clips off.
good luck,
daveo.

I put some 6x9's in the back of my CC and it was a GREAT improvement! I bought some mid priced speakers at Wally-World cuz I'm kinda old and cheap but still want my cheesy 80's music to sound good. Is that an oxymoron?!!

Yeah, key word "CHEAP". I want a slightly better than stock sound, for the smallest amount of dollars!!
Take care,

Message: Putting the 6.9s in the rear isn't too bad. I have a 2001. Cut the metal just a bit and put the panel back.
I the Kenwood Z919 CD/MP3 player, 3 Kenwood amps, 6" in the doors, 6x9s and a 10" woofer. About 1000 watts of sound all around. Speakers are all Infinty, the woofer, MTX.

Message: Rocking w/ Dokken, Ratt and Roll, AC/DC, Hysteria, any of this ring a bell? I'm thinking about putting some Jensen 6 X 9s in my 91 regular cab back inside the columns where there is a grill slot, looks like a speaker of some sort will fit, but a 6 X 9? I have the Pioneer Truck speakers that should fit nicely behind the seat but what about the 6 X 9s?

Damn, Limp Bizkit and Disturbed aint got nothin' on the good ole hair bands of the 80's!!!
I put a $120 am/fm/cd and some <$100 Jensen 6x9's from Wal-Mart in the back of my 95 CC with the stock front speakers and it does just fine! No, you can't hear it from 2 blocks away and, no the body panels don't vibrate from the 52" subs but that's okay.....

Weeeeel, maybe I exagerated a bit!!
Do they even make a 52" sub?
I do have a 12 foot hoop wing straped to the back. It's yellow so you know that adds about 50 more horsepower!
Okay, maybe not. My truck is pretty much bone stock. Besides putting in a cd player and some speakers the only other thing is when I had to buy new tires I got 31x10.5 and stuck them on the stock wheels.

Message: Mounted 6x9's in the side panels of my extended cab. Mounted the speakers on plastic cutting boards from the Dollar Tree, then bolted the cutting boards the the metal sides. Had to trim just a little metal to help them fit, but they sound great. Not to bad a job, just use a dremel for the metal trim work. Good luck.
