Subject: What part is this on AX-15 tranny?

Message:
I am having some leaking problems from the A9x-15 5spd tranny on my 97 Dakota 3.9. The problem appears to be coming from the 'bell housing' [is this the right term? the part that bolts to the back of the engine: the clutch is inside it], on the passenger side, about 3/4 of the way to the top. The gear oil only leaks on the passenger side of the housing, down to the bottom, and sprays/driving throws it on the passenger side frame.

The part that I think is responsible I can describe, but I don't know what it is and the parts pictures at the local dodge dealer are too vague to really help. I can see a rubber grommet, that appears to be about 1" or 1 1/2", somewhat squarish, and has two electrical wires running into the top of it. This is located about 3/4 of the way up from the bottom, on the passenger side. It appears that there is a metal 'bar' [for lack of a better term] that is attached with two bolts, and this 'bar' appears to be locking down the forward edge of the 'grommet', and it appears to be bolted right at the forward lip of the bell housing. Do any of you have any clue what this part is?

I haven't removed it yet, due to the fact that I want to have the spare part in hand when I do, so that I don't have a week of down time and no vehicle. I KNOW it isn't the vehicle speed sensor, or the speed sensor adaptor, as I found those located on the drivers side, near where the u-joint meets the driveshaft. This 'grommet' is less than 4" away from the rear of the engine bloc itself [I think it is about 1-2 inches at max], and is about about at the space between 1 and 2 o'clock on a clock face [if 12 is straight up and the face is looking toward the rear of the car- 3 o'clock being 1/2 way down on the passenger side]. Please, if ANY of you know what this is, or have an idea that is better than mine [nothing, is mine] as to what could be leaking gear oil at that spot, let me know. The engine/tranny main seals appear to be fine, because the oil is coming down the outside casing of the tranny, not the bottom of the dustcover.

thank you.

My first guess would be.....
CRANK SENSOR??????

Need more info....color of wires?

The leak......clean real good around the "back" of the intake......use a mirror to look at the
base of the dist., the oil pressure sensor....and the back edge of the intake where it sits on the block.....push to shove have a shop put dye in it......works for me.
