 Subject: Replacing engine, what will fit?

Im eventually going to swap my 3.9L for a different engine. I was wondering what other engines will fit in the dakota engine bay without drastically compromising room or safety (if firewall needs to be cut back) They fit a viper engine in a pt so im asuuming that would also fit in the dakota. Im sticking with a dodge engine as it is a dodge truck but id like to get some information so I can do some research. This is not something I can do right away but id like to be able to think about my options and make preparations if I can. Any information is helpful. As of now the only options i can think of are the magnum 360, hemi and viper engines, all requiring work to fit I know.

the magnum v8s are no problem to get in, you can fit any big block too, with the proper motor mounts

the HEMI being a new engine though wouldnt it be better to wait for the next year or so after they get some of the bugs fixed? I've already heard a couple problems about it. Does anyone know how much bigger the all aluminum viper v-10 engine is compared to the 3.9l in the dak?

Just about eveything has been put into a Dak v-10 viper, big blocks, 5.9L cummins you got the $$$ it can be done

the viper V10 is an extension of the small block, just 2 more cylinders, and the 3.9 is the small block minus 2 cylinders, its quite a bit bigger than the 3.9 length wise, but i dont believe width is different, but good luck getting the exhaust to flow

What woudl the problem be with getting the exhaust to flow? And does anyone know where i can get actual specs for the lengths of the different engines and the actuall usable length of the dakota engine bay?

Does anybody know personally, someone that has switched engines in the dakota for a viper or older hemi, big block etc? I would like to personally talk to someone that has if possible. Anybody that knows someone or anyone that has done this please respond.

the problem is finding headers or exhaust manifolds to go around your steering column, and everything on the driver side, passenger side wouldnt be too bad, but driver side, you have a lot of stuff there taking up space
