Subject: Haynes or Chilton's manuals? IP: Logged
Message: Which, in your opinion, is better? I need to replace my timing chain and usually favor the Haynes manuals, but thought I'd get some opinions first.
I've got a '96 w/128,212 miles
Thanks,
Daveo.

Message: The Haynes manual I believe only goes up to 1999 Dakotas. Would the information contained in this manual be the same for 2000 Dakotas as well?

Message: If you do not want to pay for the shop manual, I would say get Haynes. I prefer the shop manual; whether you are shade tree mechanic or not..

Message: I have used both and i think it breaks down like this. The Haynes has less info but more pictures. Pictures are good for people who have never done the work before. The Chilton has less pictures but more complete instructions. So long story short if you never do more than change oil get the Haynes if ya really like to work on your truck find a Chiltons
