i dont know what the deal is, yesterday i changed my filter, and tranny pan gasket b/c it was in need to be changed, and the tranny pan gasket was leaking...i recently had the tranny rebuilt and has been leaking very slowly ever since. so i pulled the tranny pan back off (HECK OF A MESS) and cleaned the tranny and the pan, then went to autozone and bought another gasket/filter for my tranny, and also made sure the pan was flat, me and dad checked it with a t-square, and i put some high temp silicon on the pan along with the gasket. as i was torqueing the pan to 150 inch lbs. like dakota dan said, the tranny pan gasket cracked!!! but with the silicon high temp stuff on there should it hold?

how much does a tranny pan cost?

thanks again,
whitedakota

im going to go fill it up and try it around 5:30 central time. its been sitting up for about 5 hrs. tell you how it turns out..

have never used silicone gasket maker on my truck near the tranny. some mechanics ived talked to believe the acids in the silicone can damage some components of the trans.
not to double guess dakota dan but 150in lbs seems like alot for the gasket, throw in the silicone and i can see how the gasket could get pushed out.
my only thought after doing all my own is how you sequenced the bolt tighening on the pan. i normally take the torque down in steps, half and half. but never had to use silicone or gasket maker.
