 Subject: Need HELP on MY Dodge 88 Dakota

I got a 1988 Dogde Dakota Longbed Pickup with V-6 and it had problems with the dying when you drive it 3 to 4 miles. When it dies (meaning engine stops) u have to wait for 15 to 20 minutes before it starts. I don't know the problem but if anyone knows anything, please reply.

try the coil. they over heat,then cool and work again.

When it is running....Frap the base of the distributor with a small hammer ...If it misses every time you smack it...It is the pick up coil in the distributor. ( used to be called POINTS ) before all of this hot new electronic crap came out.:> Good Luck

i had the same problem for a while then my truck just stopped running for a week. I posted a message on the board and someone told me to check the fuel pump i replaced it and it hasnt done it since

hey, check out your stove pipe! if its not there any more or ripped in two it will cause your carb to freeze up. yes you have a stove on your engine its wrapped around the exhaust man.

This is just something that happens with daks when the get older man FUEL PUMP in the gas tank is either extremely clogged or just done for about a $40 part at autozone.
