Subject: 42RH Transmission Band Adjustment IP: Logged
Message: Recently I decide to do a fluid/filter change for my tranny. It has 170,000 miles on it and like to hop in and out of gear when it was cold, I thought maybe the filter was so clogged up it made it harder for the cold fluid to get through it. However while I had the pan off I attempted to adjust the Reverse/Low Band as the adjustor for it is in the pan. It didn't seem like it went very well as far as following the crappy Haynes manual, seemed like it needed to be turned quite a bit to get the proper torque reading, but it seems like it hooks up a lot better on the street now. My question is what are the repercussions of possibly over-tightening the bands? I figure I've been pretty lucky to make it this many miles with relatively little maintenance on it, but would like to get a timeframe as to how long I have to find another one before this one bombs out if I overtightened them. Thank you in advance....
