Message: How hard is it to replace the rear end gears in a Dakota? I have the 3.21 and want to change to the 3.55s. Is it possible to do it at home if you have the right tools? Thanks for the help.

Message: As long as its usually the same price why no just get the 3.92 gears. You will feel quite the diffrence. I have a friend back home that changed the gears in the front and back of his bronco with out a problem. Everything will work diffrently for everyone. Ask a local mechanic because I rember hearing something about setting backlash. Oh and I also heard something about it throwing off your speedometer but I'm not sure how true that is.

Message: it will throw off your speedometer cause the wheels are spinning at a differenet speed than what its calibrated for just take it to the dealer and have it re calibrated for the right rear end

Message: if its 97 or newer, the speed gear is in the rear end and wont through off the speedo at all.
