Subject: O2 Sensor 1999 V6 IP: Logged
Message: Any ideas on how to change the 02 sensor on my 1999 V6 Sport? I get a "check engine" light that comes on and off and has been doing it for about 6 months. The truck just passed emissions testing here in Illinois after I changed the gas cap that was leaking. Any ideas how hard it is to change and how much I can expect to spend doing it? Thanks.

Message: A new sensor is probably around $60 and they take about 5 minutes to change. What code is stored in your computer? There are over 200 things that will turn the check engine light on. Also your truck probably has a minimum of 3 sensors so you will need to determine which one is bad.

Message: I haven't checked the codes, but the guy at the emissions place said that it (the o2 sensor) would be about the only thing that would make the check engine light come on and not fail emissions.

Message: The emissions guy is not a mechanic. The O2 sensor may be the problem but, like Jon said, it could be a lot of other things. You need to get the code from the computer to find out what is wrong before you fix it.
