Message: Hello, I just bought my first dodge dakota it is a 97 ran great till i got it home then it started to misfire took it back to the dodge dealership and they pulled up a tsb on the sparkplug wires about crossfire ignition. they replaces the wires cap and roter and it runs great. the only problem is that not i have lost the heat from the heater. the truck has a V6 and dose not lose any coolent and the fan blows and i only have heat when arround 2000 rpm's the cooling system holds preshure had it checked every thing came back ok ne1 else have this problem and is there any fixes maby the theromostat, also it takes a long time for it to get up to operating temp.

Message: I also have a 97 Dakota and the heater is not
working very good. It just started doing this
around 74,000 miles. Blower works fine, but
the air is luke warm. I ordered a Chilton repair
manual so maybe I can fix this myself. Hope
its not the heater core!

Message: I have the same problem, 80,000 miles and the heat
never was that good, but now it trickes out only when the fan is on low. When the fan is high it comes out cold. changed the thermostat little impovemnent. My mechanic said it is a bad heater core, i priced it out from the dealer 195$. I have not been able to see what the tsb for poor heater perfomance says. If any one has it please post. I also read something about reversing the hoses to the heater core to force out whaterver may be pluging up the heater core.

Message: Last year when I got my '93 Dakota I had a bad heater core Murrays Auto Parts in Redford, Mi had it instock, for 29.99.
Install was a small pain, make sure that you disconnect all heater control cables from the mix door, as well as all vacuume lines (if it applies to later vehicals) Also if you have A/C you likely will have to have the system reclaimed, due to the fact that the Evaporator core is also in the mix box, and then the system recharged. This is still a lot cheeper than the alternitive

Message: Are you sure that it's not vacuum related?? On
my '96 the heater vent outputs are controlled
by a vacuum motor. I had some minor service
done and when it came back it would blow out
the floor output when you tromped on the gas.
I checked the hoses, and the vacuums were
flip flopped on the canister under the hood.
Maybe one of your hoses came loose and it's
a similar situation??
Good Luck

Message: No They Cannot Find Out What Is Wrong With It and at $70.00 an hour idd rather live with out heat they have spent 5 hours on this.
1 it was a clogged heater core (replaced)
2 it was the theromostat (Replaced)
3 it was the airconditioning condencer (replaced)
4 not vac related
got tired of dumping money in this truck i think im going to trade it in for a ford hate to get rid of it the truck runs good other than no heat

Message: What about the valve that diverts coolant to the heater core itself? Is it opening completly when the heat is turned on? Remember, everything heat related is driven off your water pump moving coolant around, so at lower RPMs maybe the coolant system pressure drops to the point where it isn't moving enough into the heater core. I'd get that valve checked to see if it's flowing right at idle. :0)

Message: I talked to a dealer service manager today, And he told me that if everything else is working fine,(coolant level, theromostat, heater core, fan motor, etc.) that maybe the computer needs to be reset. He said that it controls the door panels that access the heater core and air conditioning coil. Does this sound right? I guess I'll give it a try. At this point,it doesn't matter. It's almost spring time around here so I shouldn't need the heater anyway.
