Subject: bosch vs. autolite IP: Logged
Message: I have the Bosch Platinum 4 spark plugs and have heard alot about the Autolite 3923's. When I went into the auto parts store I asked for the 3923's they said those were for the '96 and earlier daks but the 5224 were for the newer ones. Which plugs should I use for the 97 dak v6 and what is the best gap to use? Also is there a special tool to use for taking out the plugs. I used a regular wrench with extentions and it was a pain in the butt, what is the easier way to do it?

Message: Yeah get the correct spark plug socket. These have a rubber insert that hold onto the insulator to remove the plug. I have a 96 3.9 and have tried the +4's, champion, delco, and autolites. This is gona sound crazy but i had the best results with the delco's. Noticable throttle reponse and about +3mpg. I know it dosent make sence but it really did happen. As far as the gap goes, as long as you have a stock igniton use the stock gap. I believe it is .035, but check you manual to be sure.

Message: so you're saying that the delco's are better than the autolite's and is there a special tool that makes getting them out easier?

Message: a deepwell socket works fine...you dont need any special tools...except for one of those things that have joints on them to make it easier to get into tight spots like the number 3 plug...and when you put them back in you use anti-seize on the threads and boot protector on the wire connections...

Message: Started using the bosch platinums when my 85 daytona was new. I have had great luck with them in all the vehicles I've owned. I've also used platinum plugs made by other manufacurers and they do not seem to work as well.
Could be subjective though, I am a believer in them
