Message: Hope that this worked for you. I've been having problems with blocked oil pump screen for 2 years. Replaced oil pump, dropped pan and cleaned, etc. Sludge just keeps coming back. A f'in nightmare!

Message: Strange problem with the sludge. What brand of oil do you use and how often is it changed? Use any additives? Does the engine run hot? (check the actual temperature not just rely on the gauge)

Message: Texaco or Shell (from Advance) changed every 3 to 4 K with no additives. Engine has 145K on it. Ran it cold for a winter with a bad t-stat and blocked the converter. The sluge is not pronounced at oil change but if the gauge won't go above 1/4 you know that the pump screen is blocked.

Message: two things,
1 Do you lose any coolant? Antifreeze in the oil will cause it to sludge up. Make sure no coolant gets into the oil, small amounts will do this.
2 Take a lot of short trips? If the oil never gets hot (not engine temp but oil temp, it takes longer to heat up) then the oil could sludge up from that. You may need to take a long drive every now and then to get the oil good and hot.
