Subject: Home TB mod? IP: Logged
Message: I was looking at the MOPAR NOW #17 mag, and on page 61 they show a beautiful KRC billet TB, with installation instructions. After looking at the pics, I wonder if I couldn't get a good percentage of the airflow improvement by working over the stock TB. Anyone try that? Looks like I could grind off the flanges and add a lead-in radius, move the air cleaner stud, polish the bore to make it slick, and maybe even rig some smaller throttle shafts, and I'd have almost the same thing for $0, which is a big deal for a workin' man. By the way, my '96, 3.9, 5 spd, rc kicks butt. Reminds me of my '65 GTO I had 30 years ago, only much easier to drive. Both of them too heavy to be very quick, but fun anyway!

Good directions, you'll need a dremel and a hacksaw.

Message: I have did it when I had my '97 5.2. I took a hack saw and cut all the ridges off of the top of the throttle body, except for the ones that locat the air hat. Then I took a dremal tool and ground it all smooth, removing the lip in front of the TB blades and radiused the throttle bores for a smooth transition. Finnaly I chucked the air hat retaining stud and bent a new one out of ¼ inch all thread. It looked awsome and performance increase was noticable. All for about $5 in sanding rolls. Well worth it in my opinion.

Message: Thanks! Happy new year! If it warms up I'll be out under the shade tree griding on my TB! Guess I better take it off, first, huh? Haha
My son 15, set on getting a Stang GT, 5.0. I've challenged him with my Dak, so I've got some work to do! I'm thinkin' more air in & out and a lower reargear, and I hope he burns a hole in the asphalt while I'm shiftin into 2nd. Maybe then I can beat him to the lights! I'll let you know how it goes around July.
