Whether the engine is at idle or floored I hear a clacking noise. I just bought the truck and it was doing it before but I thought I could ignore it WRONG! I don't know exactly where it is coming from. Right I am using Mobil 1 Syn. 10W30 but I am thinking about going to the Mobil 1 15W40. Does anyone think that will help. Any feedback would really help. THIS NOISE IS DRIVING ME NUTS. HHHHHEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

try adding some risilen (something like that), it is supose to quiet down your vaulve train. You might get lucky and it might be a heat shield on a cat or somethin.

My truck had rattled since new. The dealer installed the tensioner as detailed in the TSB and BINGO! A nice quite motor. The fix was not under warrenty, so it cost me $390.00, but IMHO, it was WELL WORTH IT!

I have an 99 Dodge Dakota and also noticed the clacking noise. Mine was coming from the normal purge valve operartion. It is mounted on the fire wall and the sound resonates throughout the vehicle. I thought I had an engine knock but when I investigated it and diconnected (just to check if it was causing the noise) the purge selonoid The noise went away. Valve trane noise is also normal to an extent. Not the best engineered engine.
