Subject: tornado's or tor"not"o's IP: Logged
Message: I need some clearing up from you guys. I put one of those stupid tornado's in and believe it or not it saved me gas, was getting 100miles to a quarter tank. I kid you not!! BUT, the performance of the truck sucked!! I could not figure out what was wrong. So I took the tornado out and also set my TPS sensor back to factory thinking maybe it was that. The truck runs great now!! But which one was it? Something was saving me gas, maybe the restricted airflow coming into the TB thus the poor performance. My gas mileage is back to sucking but i got my performance back. Let me know which one you think it was.

Message:
The tornado works by swirling and restricting the air flow just a bit, thus raising the air intake temp with makes it a warmer charge. The hotter engine runs more efficiently thereby increasing mpg at the expense of performance. To get over 28 mpg in your dakota just block off the air intake almost completely and it will be so much more efficient and run better. That Tornado is a miracle, just imagine how short of time that mpg increase will take to pay for such a marvel. If you buy two of them and stick them back to back it will double the horsepower in your engine. There is proof (I saw it on the 'net) that by installing the Tornado it has cured a leaking exhaust pipe and fixed a bad rod knock. If you shove that damn Tornado up your a$$ it will do wonders for your sex life and make you popular with the girls........damn y'all.

Message: So then even putting a cold air intake on would cause you to get a little worse gas mileage since your bringing in colder air. Didn't mean to piss anyone off, just wanted to know what was giving me the increased gas mileage but crappy performance.

Message: The Tor-Not-o was a restriction to the airflow. Since the fuel charge is regulated by airflow - less air - less fuel - less performance. It would act thae same as a dirty air filter. Just another one of the fantastic power making and fuel saving devices.

Message: Well the short list includes...
Tune up
New air filter
Correct tire pressure
Wheel alignment
Switch to all syn. lubricants including bearings,trans/transfer,u-joints,etc. (less rolling resistance)
Use the octane of fuel recommended for your engine.
A good wax job (less air resistance)
Just a few ideas to start.

Message: I forgetted .......
"J" gap and index the spark plugs. That will expose more of the spark to the fuel charge and help to get a more complete combustion.

Message: what tire pressure does everyone use? If you filled those tire to what the tire says (like 42lbs or something) the thing will ride like a brick! I go with 35lbs usually.

Message: I bought a set of Coopers and the shop recommended 40 front/35 rear. After 20K miles they are wearing evenly across the tread. I also rotate them every 5K.

Message: Depends what size tires you got on.
With the 265/70/R16 that are on my truck, I keep the pressure at about 30psi in the front and 32psi in the back.
With smaller tires, you'll need more pressure.

Dillegm, Yes it's true. I hate those stupid Tornado things and the way they rip people off with there wild claims!
Burnt Out has put a great list of what to do to your truck to improve your mpg.
As far as how much air to put in your tires you should start with your OWNERS MANUAL! If you don't have one get one and in the mean time take a look at the plate riveted to the drivers side door jamb and it will tell you what pressure to put in your tires. That number on the sidewall of the actual tire has nothing to do with what is recommended for YOUR vehicle. Just ask Bridgestone and Ford!!!!
