 Subject: Pro Mods for a 6

I know the the world has gone bad when all I hear is how much horse power people get out of a 4 banger, and here I sit with a 3.9L v6 with less then 150hp. Is there anything available to get our dak's over the 300hp level without having her sucking on a bottle?

Gibson Headers, Gibson Dual Sport Exhaust, Stage 1 Jetchip, 180 Degree T-stat, 3.92 Sure Grip Rear end, Underdrive Pully, V8 50mm Throttle Body, 1.7 RR, cold air intake, MSD ignition, ATI procharger, 4.7L stroker kit. Thats it man, I'm all out of ideas, you might have close and hopefully over 300hp at the fly, but to the wheel is another story.

Out of all thoses mods which 2 or three would you say are the best but under 300 a piece because my 3.9 magnum has horrible acceleration and performance but i dont have tons of money to pump into it. But I hate that pretty much any car or truck can take me right off the line, thanks

I found a supercharger for a 5.2 v8. Wouldn't that work on the 3.9 seeing as how they are the same motor just missing 2 cylinders. Or is it more complex then that?

Yes Gibson makes headers for our 6ers. I have the JBA headers on my 2000 quad cab. A 48mm throttle body combined with a good intake system would help out a lot and a better free flowing exhaust (stick with the 2 1/2" cat back system). After that go for 3.91 gears and 1.7 roller rockers for an even more punch.

I can't say what mods make the best improvements. All I have is a K&N drop in and new plugs and wires. The true owners of my dak (my parents) still have the last word in what happens underthe hood. But the less they know the better.

Ya'll are crazy! :) 300hp?! What the heck is that? For the 10 millionth time, start off with the V8 TB, intense intake, skip the headers, flowmaster or dynomax muffler (don't be going crazy with a 3" or dual exhaust setup), and maybe an iat relocation. Oh yeah don't forget the must-do tune-up: 3923s, 180 t-stat, good wires, brass cap & rotor, and a pulley. Ain't gonna give you no 300 or even 200hp but you WILL feel a difference.

yes 300hp!
A 3.5L V6 Nissan has 287hp!
Maybe .4L is not much but come on where has the power gone. I know I know just buy the 5.9, forget the V8 I want to pull up with my six and smoke some. What better feeling is there then smoking some guy driving a v8 when you have only six boys under the hood.

I took a look at the gibson website:
www.gibsonperformance.com
and noted that the Dakota 3.9L headers only support the 02-03 models. Is it likely they will also work on 00?

Fully ported heads with larger valves, a better intake and TB and some high compression pistons can probably get you to 300Hp naturally aspirated. If you stroke it you will get a few more horsepower and move the powerband back a couple thousand rpms so it's more streetable.
