Subject: 93 3.9L Mods IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1993 Dakota 3.9L 4x4. The mods that I have already done include Bosch Platinum +4 plugs, Magnecor Wires, Accel Coil, ported and teflon coated throttle body, K&N, Royal Purple Synthetic Motor Oil, and a Robert Shaw 180 degree thermostat. The few mods I have done so far have actually given the truck quite a bit more kick.
I also installed a Mopar Performance computer. I noticed NO power gain but had to use 93 octane and noticed increased carbon buildup....so, I put the original computer back in and sold the Moper Performance computer on eBay.
Mods I will soon be performing will be a Dynomax Superturbo Muffler, K&N FIPK, and relocation of IAT sensor to air intake tube. I chose the Dynomax because I have used them on my 1993, 1994, and 1998 Cadillac STS's with very good luck and the noise is not too excessive.
Other mods I am considering are an extrude honed intake manifold, 1.7 roller rockers, and a limited slip differential.
My Dakota has 130,200 miles now and has been trouble free. I get very irritated when driving 75-80 on the interstate and the transmission constantly shifts in and out of overdrive. I have looked for headers for the 3.9 but have only found them for the 5.2.
I would love to hear any comments on what I have done so far, what I have planned and considered, as well as any ideas anyone has as far as mods.
Thanks,
Luke

Message: Oh yeah, I have 3.55 gears now....if I changed them to 3.92, would I have to change the gears in the front diff also? Also, would there be a big difference in highway RPM's?
Thanks,
Luke

Message: yes u would have to change the gear in the front unless u dont mind breaking out both of your drive shafts. The rpms will go up slightly but not that much (maybe 300 rpms)

Message: Thanks for the reply guys.
I am curious...how loud are the JBA Headers? Do they make it much louder? I am not a big fan of loud...a mild growl of performance but not loud. I am going to put a Dynomax Superturbo on the Dakota and am affraid the muffler and headers together may make it too loud for my liking.

Message: Well Sam, the IAT sensor is currently located in the intake manifold where it gets very hot. As a result, the computer adjusts the timing and power is lost. If it is moved to the air intake tube, it senses the actual air temperature and not so much power is lost.
