Subject: My Dak sounds like a diesel
IP: Logged

Message:
When I'm idling it sounds almost like it's a diesel. I can't tell if it's a pulley or internal, like main bearings or something.
It's done it since I bought it about 3-months ago, so I don't think it's hurting anything.

Has anyone noticed this with their Dak, and what could it be? It's a '96 xtended cab.
Thanks,
Daveo.

Mine sounds a bit better then a diesel but I know what you're saying! I've found that one step cooler plugs and NOT putting anything less than 89 octane it improves but doesn't quiet it completely.

Thanks guys,
randyr, it may be the timing chain, since I have 126,000 miles on it.

I have a '96 Dak as well. I think your referring to good ole knocking. Probably sounds the worst when lugging at lower rpm's. If so, 3923 spark plugs, 180 t-stat, and mid-grade fuel are the easiest mods to help. I had to do all that on mine and it solved the problem. Good luck.

Please tell me what a diesel sounds like. Becuz my 90 dodge v6 3.9 has a lite whining or weezing noise to it that raises and lowers with the speed of the engine.

This is an unbelievably old thread but ill post anyway. My dak
started making this noise about 13 years ago and over
120,000 miles ago and it never had an issue. i don’t have a
clue what causes the sound but it’s never caused damage, it
just makes a different sound for some reason.
