Subject: Engine runs poorly

Message:
I recently bought a 1998 Dakota with 96k miles, and I noticed it missing when I first start it up. The engine will hesitate, make a popping noise, then stop in about 15-30 seconds. After that it runs fine. I have changed the plugs and plug wires and had a dealer hook it up to the computer, where of course, no code shows. While the dealer had it, they replaced the rotor and distributor cap. Does anyone have any ideas. I'm not much of a mechanic, so I am really grasping for straws here.
