Subject: 3.92 gears IP: Logged
Message: If I were in a junkyard, what vehicle would be a good prospect to find these (3.92) gears in. There is a u-pull-apart close to me with lots of 90 and newer cherokees and a few dakotas and a couple older ram vans. Is there a marking stamped on the rears somewhere that says what the gear ratio is? Would you recommend using "used" gears? I have a 2000 dakota with 8.25/3.21.

Message: I wouldn't go to the trouble and expense of putting used gears in my rear end...the trucks rear end.
Either buy a whole rear axle from the same year or newer with the ratio you want and swap out the whole rear end or buy new gears and have them installed.
Used gears are like a used cap and rotor or a used pork chop.
