Just bought a 92 dakota sport w/ 3.9 multiport fuel inj. Runs pretty good but was wondering what the first, cheapest, mods I could do to improve horsepower?

Intake, relocated IAT sensor, exhaust, Autolite 3923 sparkplugs...
Those are about the cheapest things you can do, and they will give a nice increase in performance...

You might want to try changing your stock muffler to a Flowmaster 70 series. It is less than 80 dollars and is a direct fit. One of the best things you can do to make something fast is lighten it up. Take off the tailgate, jack, spare, and maybe a rollpan from Summit Racing for $100. You can get more serious with your mods, but it is best to start out small. Just my 2 cents.
