Subject: relocate IAT IP: Logged
Message: I am thinking of relocating my IAT but dont know too much about it. I would like to know how much of an improvement on performance I will see. I also wanna know if this will possibly screw up my engine. I had a drop in K & N air filter but I am about to get a whole new intake system. I also have dual flows. If I relocate the IAT I wanna know what kind of intake you guys recomend for the best performance. If any of you guys have this done and know whats up with it, I would appreciate if you hit me back and give me some information on it. Thanks -Justin

Message: Justin,
Well, I have an airaid intake that I relocated the IAT sensor to about 6 months ago. Of course, you don't need an airaid intake, a lot of people actually make their own home-made intakes using parts from Home Depot. The IAT sensor, and I'm going from memory, is going to require you to drill a 1/2" hole in the intake and thread it with a standard pipe-thread. Your going to need to go get a pipe-plug (metal) in this size as well to plug the hole in the intake manifold where the IAT used to be. On mine I had to lengthen the cable to the IAT as well, it wasn't difficult.
Performance wise? From 70 degrees down to about 45 you'll see the biggest improvement. Above 70 the returns start to become minimal. As for the engine, it ran a little rich for a bit, and threw an engine code immediatly. Once I reset it the computer though, it relearned new variables and has been find since. So far I've run it in temps as high as 90F, and as low as -10F without any issues.
Hope that helps!
