Subject: More than belly pan gasket? IP: Logged
Message: Well, a shop has confirmed that there is a bit of an intake leak as suspected from previous post (when I thought it could have been a plugged cat). Trouble is, it's not bad enough (yet) to generate bad emissions or loss of vacuum, so they really don't think it's the sole source of my power/mileage loss. A good bit of testing hasn't revealed anything else though. Over the last 6k miles I've slowly lost a good 7 mpg & lots of performance.
Makes sense to me that if the plenum belly pan gasket were the sole problem there would be more evidence. No carbon build up, no significant vacuum loss, no increase in emissions, no codes/lights, just a thin film of (fairly clean) oil in the intake and the previously mentioned mileage/performance loss.
Clutch isn't slipping...what else could be compounding a minor plenum leak? Could a leak so minor really affect mileage so much without evidence that it's burning excess gas?
Any help appreciated - Thanks,
- Chris

Message: What caused this for me was two clogged injectors, bad fuel pump and bad 02 sensors. Check these things out.

Message: If you are thinking of a good cleaning of the injectors or replaceing a couple, get a set of FMS injectors from Fiveomotorsports. They will cost about the same as a good cleaning, but may make you run better too. If under warranty, be sure to have the plenum gasket replaced.Good luck.

Message: Thanks for the input. I don't believe I have an injector problem, as it doesn't seem to explain using too much gas. Should I begin to suspect injectors, I'll go for the new ones though.

Message: No need to buy new ones yet. You can bleed the pressure off, and remove the old ones, look in the intake side to see if any crust or grit is in em. spray some brake parts cleaner into em and put them back in. Check your fuel pressure, 94 and up should be 50 psi. To check your 02 sensors just get a multimeter and check the ohms between the two white wires. Should be 5-7 ohms.
