my 90 3.9L accelerates like crap and sometimes in a strong wind it is hard to keep it at a high speed.

is it a burned belt or needs a new filter or should i just replace the transmission

Is the tranmission slipping, or is the truck having trouble maintaining RPMs as well in this condition?

might be since its 13 years old that the engine is just worn out, also that old of a 3.9 was rated at 125 hp. so don't expect too much out of it since it ain't got much to give.

I have a 90 v6 3.9 and i had 2 problems with acceleration. One turned out to be the uv joints on the drive shaft. But that also was occompanied by vibration. ANd the other was a bad catalytic convertor. WHen i got that replaced it made a big difference in acceleration.I too thought my trans was going out.
