Finally did the last and most anticipated Mod I gleaned from the bullitin board here, the throttle body swap.From reading here the finer points of doing it it went without a hitch. 1 hour and I changed my V6 to a V8. I went with replacing the throttle cable rather then modifying the TB to work with my original one. New throttle cable ran $27.00 at dodge dealer and $2.78 for new gaskit. Got the TB on ebay for $80.00 and it was from an R/T of the same year as my truck which seemed nice. I have no engine light problems so far, it idles around where it used to. (the idle flucuates a little but I'm hoping as I drive it the computer will adjust it?) The biggest thing I've noticed is how quick in first gear I am at 3500 RPM and need to shift and then the same for second. I have been taking it easy till I drive a bit but I can tell that there's some new power there waiting to be let loose. Don't know quite yet about the top end but the low end has definately improved! 2 weeks ago I installed my Fastman TB, I know how you feel! Nice to have a truck with NO hesitation at any throttle position and at any RPM. Enjoy, I am.

I've heard that lightly-modded V6's, the 48mm will do wonders...
For more modded up w/ head work, intake manifold, and supercharger/turbo, the 50mm will do better.:)

If you talk to Dan Arcand he'll tell you that a 48mm is too big for a V6. Any bigger than 46mm you will lose low end torque while gaining only a slight bit more top end(compared to the 46mm). The bigger the holes, the slower the velocity of the air, but the greater the capacity. To make torque at low RPM's you need velocity more than capacity. That said, if you drive WOT everywhere, than maybe you want those 2-4 extra HP's at redline. But for me it's all about what torque I can make throughout all RPM's, rather than "peak" HP at redline.

Well I don't know what all that means but I do know that since the swapped my truck is running 20% faster in my opinion. There is no hesitation when I push the gas peddle. All gears feel stronger. Definately get up through the gears quicker. The only problem is the tires break lose to easy when the roads a little wet. I think for the price it is a good mod to consider. I always have my old V6 TB to slap back on if I find it's not an improvement. I still need to get somewhere and open her up. I still don't know what size TB it is though, oh well...

The bores are 50mm tapering down to 48mm at the plates. They're all the same, a V8 stock TB off an R/T is the same as one off a Ram, dakota or Durango. It takes about 200 miles before the pcm really gets to learn and absorb the changes.

Thanks Lesley. I notice every time I drive it, it gets better. One thing I have noticed is that it idles from 650 to 900 rpm. Kind of a fluctuation I would say. Do you think this will mellow out as the PCM learns? Are you or anyone familiar with this or has it happened to anyone after doing a TB swap? It doesn’t really affect anything, just annoying to watch needles bounce around. Also Lesley do you have an opinion on what Darryl commented on? Thanks

Hey guys! Hope you don't mind me jumping in. I'm kind of tired of no low end power and bad throttle response myself. So you can really tell a diff in performance with a V8 tb huh? I've been thinking about one for a while. If I went to the junk yard and bought one off a V8 Dakota, would it work on my truck?

Next time I'll type S-L-O-W-E-R...Just kidding.
I was just trying to say that bigger is not always better,(although my wife might argue that). I'm sure the stock V8 TB is a fine mod. I went with the Fastman 46mm TB after talking with Dan, and I am very happy with it and for only a little more $ than the V8 conversion, I have a beautifully ported TB that was spec'd for my V6 by someone with a crap load more experience than me!

No worries mate! I didnt have the funds for the ported and polished V6 TB right now. That's why I went with the quick and easy V8 mod. I have my V6 TB and am seriously considering having it done in the future to it. Thanks for the feedback.

Before I replaced my throttle body I had replaced the muffler with a 70 series flowmaster, not for performance. the old one had a couple of holes in it. Then I replaced the v6 tb with the v8 tb and noticed considerable increase in power. At a later time I removed it and ported and polished the tb and installed the s-bolt. I was surprise again a noticeble increase in power. I have installed the msd 6a, msd 8.5 wires and blaster coil, cold air intake. With all these mod's, mileage has increasd an average of 2mpg in town and about 3 on the open road (14/18 before 16/21 after).

I purchased a v8 throttle body from an R/t and put it on my truck a while back. Also I cut off the air horn and made it all nice and smooth. The problem is my truck hesitates the first couple of seconds from idle to WOT. I know what all of you are saying, adjust your tps. Well I already did its running at .76. Im wondering if I should go to a smaller throttle body by fastman, maybe pick up some of that low end. I just don't want to spend the money and not feel any difference. Could I get a few opinions here thanks.

like the V8 body's

I have a 96 dakota and did a tb swap. The idle flucuates on mine to. (just enouogh to notice) I have put about 2 months of miles on it and it still does it. Any body know how to fix it?

A 95 shouldn't need a V8 cable ,the V6 tb has the same connection as a V8.
