Message: I have '98 Dakota with 3.9 and a 5 speed. Im running down the highway at 55 mph at about 1800-1900 rpms. I have the 3.21:1 rear end. I have an air raid intake. I'e been considering a set of cheapo ebay header since i have a crack in the driver side stock manifold. I was wondering if an aftermarket company had put out a taller rear end gearing kit. If there isnt one, what is an inexpensive way to get better fuel economy.

Message: There are gear vendors all over the web. That probably won't help your mileage though. What kind of mileage are you getting?

Message: My 95 Dakota with 4x4 club cab and 3.9 auto and 3.42 rear end is so powerless it wont hold overdrive in a headwind or any kind of grade. Most of the time I just lock it out because of the constant shifting in and out. Putting higher gears in your truck wont help gas mileage. The biggest mistake I made was installing 9.50 xx 16 tires.
