Message: Gears
sometimes going with a higher ratio sure the rpm
will change but if the motor has to work harder
to get to speed and maintain the speed it will
use more fuel
3.55 to 3.21 or 3.55 to 3.91 this will only change
the rpm about 200rpm
I have also seen the reverse we took a 1994 full
size 4x4 went from 3.55 to 3.91 and the gas
mileage went from 20mpg on the highway to 22mpg
driving the back roads 35 to 45mph the mileage
went 15 to 17 why, because the motor was not
working as hard to do the same job
This was a completly stock 318 not even a cold air
Itall depends on what the truck is used for pull
a trailer the lower gears will help mileage now
if you do mostly highway 65 70mph than the higher
3.21 would be better for mileage

Message: For this guy go with the stage 2 chip on 99% of
the trucks this chip will run perfict with reg
fuel and will help more with the more mods you do
The chips add about 12hp 15 to 20 torque
They work from just off idle and you will feel the
performance increase very noticeable around 2500
3000rpm providing all the sensors are working
ok
The jet stage 2 chips we install a lot of them
yes there is only a small power increase but the
best thing about them is the mileage increase
from 1 to 3 mpg
Another place you will notice the chip is while
crusing in o/d lockup on the highway and better
low end off idle response and torque
most guys think they put this chip on and will
change from a 16 sec truck to a street racer
droping down into the low 14's with a 25 to 50hp
gain than when this does not happen they say the
chips don't work
better gas mileage and a small perf gain accros
the entire rpm range this is what the jet chips
are all about and they work well they are not
some magic bullet like some think
If your looking for better mileage and a little
more power a little not tons even just the
mileage gain the stage 2 chips give you is worth
every penny
don't forget it takes the computer around 200
miles to learn and run with the altered signals
it sends the comp around 500 miles they really
begain to tweak or fine tune and the comp will
not learn around them and run the same as before
how can it
There is another facter here most also think they
plug the chip in and instantly they get gains
it just does not work that way there again they
say the cips do not work
If you had a wide band o2 read and graf the air
fuel ratio on the truck now plug the chip in
run 200 miles and compair and you can see plane
as the nose on your face the ratio has changed
especialy under excelleration over 2500rpm
it will change around .5 stock at half throttle
2500 3000rpm around 14 to 1 with the learned
stage 2 chip around 13.5 better for power
when you get down around 12.5 13 to 1 this is a
lot better ratio for power than a 14 14.5 to 1
that being 14 parts air to 1 part fuel the stock
comp will try to maintain a 14.7 ratio for better
economy but that is exactly what it is not a
power ratio but more for economy running the
better ratio increases power it gets to speed
faster and than drops to econo the motor strugles
and works less to get the same resalts

Message: on the exhaust issue... your probably better off just buying a muffler and tips (if you want tips) and just going to a shop to make pipes for you. this sounds expensive but its not. I paid $200 for the pipes and about $90 for the muffler. The flowmaster 40 and 50 series are both good, but I bought a 70 and while its bigger, many people ask me if its a V8

Message: hey, i know it's been a while since people have looked (or at least commented) on this thread, but im slightly curious on something.
I recently purchased a 2003 3.9L dakota 4x4 5 speed. (dont think trans stuff matters much) and was curious about putting a throttle body from a 5.9L/5.2L on my V6.
Is there some sort of heads up i should be informed about when doing this? (size in mm stuff, cpu stuff, how much it would dig a hole in my wallet, etc)
and could i use a throttle body from any year as long as it's 5.9/5.2L?

Message: any year '96-up 5.2 or 5.9 will bolt right up. only thing you may have to worry about is the connection of the throttle cable to linkage on the TB. there is a difference between the V6 & V8 connection. you can either buy a new throttle cable with the proper end or modify the connection yourself.
they should all be 50mm, no cpu/pcm stuff to worry about and depending where you shop will determine what you pay. i bought one for my '00 for 25 bucks and modified the throttle connection myself.

Message: The stock V6 bodies flow from around 335 to 425cfm
A stock V8 body flows around 625cfm its like
putting a 4bl on
The 46mm fastman and the 48mm F&B flow around
650 cfm
bolt on as is do not mod or it will flow to much
and your low end torque will be gone
The V8 low end the same gains from 1800rpm to
redline
The fastman and F&B offer gains from off idle to
redline
The V8 swap is still a nice way to go

haha engine swaps would be fun, but things arent the way they were in the 70's where you could take out your engine, take it apart, put it back together, and have it run better than before.
so fastman or F&B TBs would be a better way to go, but the V8 TB swap is still decent but loses some torque?
Would it just be easier to pick up a cold air intake?

sure it would but, cost would be about the same(except for the V8 TB, much cheaper) and you'll get more out of the TB than any CAI.

Message: You already have the best factory exhaust manifolds of any year. The '92 & '93 v6's were rated @ 180hp instead of 175 the years after because of the manifolds.
"could i buy a cheap 5.2 header and cut 1 tube off and it work ok ?"
No, it doesn't work like that. You can find v6 headers for probably the same price as the v8.

were put into a variety of dodge vehicles. I got one for my '03
Dakota out of a '98 ram-van. Just make sure you pick up the
throttle cable. The dealership wanted to charge me $50.00 for
the cable, I went to my local salvage yard and got the cable
for $2

Message: Ok.,
Heres the scoop.
I have a 95 Dodge Dakota 3.9Liter 2wd Sport
Edition.
5 speed.
I am starting to installing mods. If someone sees
something that should not be on it, or something
better, please advise.
Just installed yesterday,
MSD 6AL Ignition System
MSD 6202 Highest End Coil
MSD 8.5mm RED Spark Plug Wires
AutoLite 3525 <whichever were recommeded on this
site, at .45 gap size.
Brass Distributor and Rotor
180 Temp Thermostat
Cold Induction Ram Air Kit (Custom)
Now for the bad news. I have absolutley felt NO
difference in performance other that a little
smoother idleing..
Nothing to pull my head back type takeoff.. etc
Also, Flowmaster 2 chamber flow with dual downflow
turndowns.
Any ideas ?
Also using 17" Rims with 225/65 tires.
