Message: Maybe a coolant sensor telling the pcm the temp is too cold. Then computer sends more fuel trying to help the engine warm up. Too much fuel & it runs like cr@p.

Message: Good chance its the fuel pump. I talked with someone on the General board last week with same problems. His was same year as well, 88. Mines a 96 and had alternating codes. It said it was o2 sensor, then too cold, and finaly #6 misfiring, but I had good spark. The fuel pump was making a humming noise constantly, and thats not normal. Turns out that was the prob. $220 bucks and about 4 to 6 hours of work and it runs awsome.

Message: Is your temp gauge correct or at least consistent? If it seems to move about or isn't reading correctly it could be the temp sensor out - that confuses the heck outta the PCM. Dunno if that applies to your year though.
