A friend of mine owns a 96 dakota and has
had the rad replaced 3 times in the last few
months. Is there such thing as a rad that won't
leak. Even the chrysler dealer she phone said
that the new ones get returned because of
leaks. She also says that no one makes an
all metal rad, they are part plastic and that's
where the problem seems to be. Any
suggestions?
thanks

What part of the radiator is leaking? I've only seen one instance where a truck went through that many radiators. It can be caused by a bad electrical ground, the truck can actually ground through the cooling system and cause the radiator to corrode and leak within a few weeks.

She said it's leaking where its crimped. I'm assuming where the plastic meets the metal but i'm not sure.

A bad radiator cap can cause the seams to blow. A company named Radac use to make copper radiators. About 96/97 I got one for a truck I had. There was another post about good radiators on the forum. Search, it may help too. Good luck.

I've got a 94 Sport and the radiator cracked at the hose neck. I went down to a local radiator shop and he had a 3 row radiator out of a 95 Dakota w/a V8. It fit right in with no prob and it was ALL METAL..no plastico whatsoever. That was about 4 yrs ago and haven't had a single problem with it. It cools 10 times better than the one that came in it.....well I did remove the clutch fan and install a set of dual Firebird LT1 electric fans. That made a big difference also. So..........with a 180 stat, dual elec. fans, and a bigger radiator out of a V8, I dare it to run hot. lol
