Subject: Trouble Code 41 IP: Logged
Message: I just put a new alternator on my 93 Dak, and that got rid of the 46 code I was getting. The manual says code 41 is "Generator field not switching properly (alternator)." I figured the new alternator would get rid of the 41 code also, but it did not. The local mechanic at the Dodge dealer said to check the smaller wires going from the alternator to the computer. He said that is usually the problem. Has anyone else gotten this code? What did you do to fix it.

Message: you did take the negative terminal of the battery, before you started right?
heres how it stands you dont have the gear to check the system. you need a 0-150 DC ammeter,a dc volt meter, and a carbon pile variable resistor, capable of handling a sustained 20amp load on the battery.
all you can do is check for continuity between wires. there are 2 field terminals, disconnect them from the alt
a dark green/orange wire.,and a dark green wire.
with the ignition of and battery disconnected. check fron the dark green orange wire to the auto shut down relay. it should be a closed circut.
the dark green wire fom the altenator to terminal 20 on the PCM connector it should be closed. if any are open you well have to find where its broken and repair it.
other than that you of to see the mechanic. the pcm controlls the dc current. expect the worst
