Subject: Rear Ends? IP: Logged
Message: How can I tell in there is a LSD in this 99' dakota at the junk yard. Is there a code in the clove box or on the axle somewhere? Or would the VIN tell me? The truck is on blocks, and I spun the drive wheel and the other wheel turned a little in the opisite direction I think. Any help would be appreciated. It's a 1999 sport Dakota with V6.

Message: If it did what you said, I believe that's how you prove it does not have LSD. From what I read a while back, in the glove compartment it lists some of the specs on the truck and that's where it will list if the truck has limited slip or not.

Message: Yes the glove and alot of other areas can tell you if that truck was "originally" equiped with L/S but.....you have to remeber that it could have been changed.
If your able, jack the rear up and turn a drum/tire/rim as you did, if both drums/tires/rims turn in the same direction than your 99% sure its a L/S.
Still wont account for any wear to the clutches though, but at least you know what it is.
