Subject: tranny problems? IP: Logged
Message: man i could use some help i have a 96 dak/4x4 3.9 with auto w/od sometimes when i get on it and the passing gear kicks in it seems like the tranny slips and my engine redlines it does not happen all the time but when it does it is at a bad time it almost makes me throttle shy.also some times when i shift into reverse while parked my tranny jerks my truck is well taken care of and i only have mild modifications like exhaust and plugs, and air filter i have already changed my trans/fluid and filter but have heard it might be the bands any help would be greatly appreciated oh my truck only has 56k on the od ..

Message: think you have 2 problems
1st ,yes the front band is in need of adjustment
2nd, the second band is in need of adjustment
the bad news is that you may have already scored the clutch packs or the second band ,lay off the kick down and have the bands adjusted. while there ask the tech, to test drive and perform a stall test before and after.
but with low milage it probably just needs the bands adjusted

Message: the 1st/reverse band is easy ,drpp the pan and ajust as per the service manual directions ,you well need a 3/8 drive in/lbs torque wrench to do it
the 2/3 band is a horse of another color. youll have to by a special wrench adapter to get at the adjuster and lock nut. from what ive found OTC snap-on can supply the tool

Message: hey i really appreciate the input my dak does not do this all the time its got a mind of its own.I just replaced the water pump, and all hoses plus the t/stat but i dont think that this should effect the tranny?it does run cooler than before i do have my chilton book so i should be able to get the specs on the band adjustments..
