Subject: Idler Pulley? IP: Logged
Message: Anyone have problems with there idler puller making a ton of noise on a 93 or newer kota? I went to a dealer and they told me that it is normal on all dodges for this to happen...yeah, sure it is. This noise is awfully loud to be normal. Plus, on top of it all, the god damned nut is stuck on the damn thing, and I can't get the little sucker off without carefully grinding it down. I'm pretty sure the noise (like a little clanking) is coming from that pulley.
Any suggestion?
Cheers
Ed Murray

Message: I got the same problem. I hear a like rattling noise at idle and it always pisses me off. The truck sounds like it is gonna give any minute but i think a dawgon pulley is what is doin it. Early next week i am putting on all new belts, and an ASP performance crank pulley. I will respond back as to if this helps any.

Message: I have a 93 with the same noise, I've read some of the posts on here and Speedtweaks.net has some info about this noise also. They say that it is the timing chain that begins to loosen and the chain is slapping around against the casing. Planning on taking it apart and checking it out soon, can't stand the noise it sounds horrible!!

Message: Dillegm, Me and my son read through this message board ever day and I'd like you to think about your choice of wording. I understand it's a free world but right is right and fowl language in this forum is not right......Normally when an idler pulley goes bad, it has a roaring sound. If it is infact going bad and not replaced, it will then lock-up or the bearings will come apart. As for the nut, MANHANDLE that sucker!

Message: The idler pulley went bad on my truck as well, it was a metal scraping noise, and it sounded all around bad. As for the clanking around at idle, its your timing chain rattling. Itll cost about 130$ in parts, seals and other misc stuff to do the job. 65$ - timing chain and sprocket set, 40$ - retro-fit timing chain tensioner, 10$- water pump and timing cover seals, 3$ - gasket sealer, antifreeze and whatnot... everyting. its all well worth it to get rid of the noise. check out the article off the main page from dodgedakotas.com
