Message:
I have a 88 V6 4x4 and i Have a question about the Overdrive...Ok its located right on the left hand side of the steering wheel, It says O/D then a Black Square button, with a light that turns on when pressed. Does this mean that when button is pressed and the light is on its IN overdrive, or that when the button and light is Off its in Over drive. The word OFF is on the button its very hard to see becuase of its age.

When the light is OFF then it allows your overdrive to kick in (you go faster with less rpm's). When the Light is ON then the overdrive doesn't kick in and you stay in 3rd gear the whole time, and if you on the freeway when you do that, you could hurt it at high rpm's for an extended period of time.
It is designed to allow you to tow or haul large payloads uphill without bogging down and losing power or putting stress on you tranny.
