Message: Get an exhaust system and an intake system. They help with both categories.

Message: 1st of all, lose the monster truck tires and go to about 245 or 30x10.5's. Use good gas. get new plugs rotor cap and good wires. gap plugs correctly. Check timing. spend $40 on a K&N air filter. Go dual exhaust. Settle for about 18-19 mpg. Do the math. That is the best mileage for this truck including 4X4's with lots of hardware like bushguards and winches. I think the 180 deg t-stat also stretches the mpg a little for the better. Keep tires inflated properly. Older trucks should go with a new Cat, they flow lots better

Message: 180 dont help mpg.. it just helps power.. an engine that runs colder uses more fuel.. so 180 is alot cooler then the stock 195..

Message: BlackDog gave some good advice and I'll add to it. Switch to synthetic lubricants including the universal joints and wheel bearings. Synthetics reduce the rolling resistance, increase the performance and increase the life of the parts. Simply put, you'll use less HP(ie less fuel) to do the same work. My truck is a '94 3.9 X-cab, 4X4, 5 speed with almost 90K miles and a heavy 'glass cap. If I drive with some sense, it dosen't have any trouble getting 20+ MPG, the best to date was 23.9 on a trip. A friend has a '93 auto 4X4 the usually gets 19-20.
