OK sorry about bringing this subject up again, I've read the other postings and I am still a little confused. I have a 96 4X4 3.9 CC. I've heard nothing but great things about K&N through and through. I looked around their site and it seems the kit offered for my truck is not an injection kit but a charger kit 57-1501...no cold air its from right above the motor.....what do I have to do to use the 55-1509? Will it work? Also where is the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensors on these motors? HOw come there aren't any FIPK's listed for and 3.9's only 5.9 and 5.2 is that an exclusion by choice....we are the ones that need it the most.

Sorry about this being so long. Thanks to whoever can help.

Kristein: We don't have MAF meters on our systems...they're speed density based which uses MAP. You can use a '97+ airhat and a Intense Performance Stage-II 7" BigMouth system for the V6. (You won't be disappointed.)

That sounds great, I have phoned a couple wreckers looking for one of those newer style Air Hats couples guys looking for me no such luck yet though. On your website is it the combination furthest to the right of the three units displayed. Also what is the exchange through speedtweaks right now? Canadian here this exchange kills us!!!

Hey Kristien
Even with exchange and shipping it is cheaper to order it from Bernd. I checked out a local shop that wanted $440 for the #57-1509 K&N, and the dealership wanted $460. Yes, the K&N FIPK will fit a 3.9 V6, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the 96 the first year for the magnum engine and gen III styling?

No the 96 is the last GENII vehicle, but it does have a Magnum engine, yet it also has an air cleaner on the TB and it a HOLLEY inprint on the cast. It seems to have some of the older style pcs with some of the newer style pcs. Are these intense performance filters reusbale I saw the oil kit but I haven't seen on their site where it shows they are.

I have the intense performance intake and yes they're reusable, in fact it's recommended you only re-oil ever 15,000 mi and only clean it every 50,000 mi. I looked around quite a bit before I choose an intake and I'm quite pleased with it's performance and it flows at 1272 CFM which is enough to put it on a supercharger later :)

Are the APC Initimidator Air Filter Cones any good, they are far less expensive here in Canada? The K&N filter req'd is $85 RE-0930. Also does anyone know what to do with the old Vacuum line that runs to the existing cold air controller. I think its a vaccuum line anyway. I am going to build a system like yours Lesley with the air bonnet from a 97'. Does the computer have any problems switching over or will it be ok right away? Last thing are Autolite 3923's good to get even with no mods yet except my new air filter? Next stop the exhaust hopefully less painful. Thanks for the help everyone.

I don't know anything about those filters - but Canadian Tire here just started carrying K&N - and last week had them 20% off.
I'm not sure about a vacuum line - on mine there is a crank case vent that attaches to the TB hat. It can just stay put if you are going to utilize a stock TB hat.
The computer (PCM) will take a few days to register the changes, or you can reset it by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a few minutes. After reconnecting, turn the ignition to on, but without starting your truck, this'll give the pcm a chance to acknowledge the changes.
I bought a factory manual for my truck off ebay, it really helped me to identify some of the mystery parts under the hood. They quite often will have a gen II manual on there for a reasonable price.

Thanks for all the help. I decided to get the K&N cone filter &" length 3" flange, locally for $70. I also was able to track down an Air bonnet/hat from a 98' Dak that someone rolled. dealer wanted $125 in BC for the factory one, I payed $50. Pretty Happy. Haven't installed yet gonna work on the tubing tommorrow but I am confident with what I have learned. Thanks a bunch to all.

Merry christmas
